Oxford Rural Cycle4Life Banner

The route is an 18 mile loop following the Oxfordshire Cycleway through the scenic Otmoor villages and countryside with cyclists having the option of cycling up to three laps (for an impressive 54 mile ride).

It is designed for all ages and abilities but we do require that riders under the age of 16 are accompanied by an adult. We recommend that you make sure your bike is in working order and bring all appropriate safety gear.

The event is fully marshalled with a support vehicle following behind with limited bike repair facilities.  Free soft drinks are available at the refreshment stops along the route (see 'The route' page).

Lunch is provided after the ride in the form of a BBQ burger station (serving both vegetarian and beef burgers) as well as Tea and Coffee all available for a small donation. As usual, the raffle will also be held after lunch.

Brief History of the Ride

The Oxford Rural Cycle 4 Life bike ride is a local fundraising event that raises money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). The route takes cyclist through the heart of north Oxfordshire and through the scenic Otmoor villages.

The bike ride was started 26 years ago by local mum and trainee teacher, Janet Russell, following her initially successful treatment for cancer. Four years later, in 1997, it became the Janet Russell Memorial Ride. Building on Janet’s memory, and that of other cancer victims who have been involved in the annual bike ride, as well as the longstanding support of their family and friends and other local cancer survivors, the event is now known as the Oxford Rural Cycle 4 Life – and as one of the most successful and well-known series of Cancer Research UK bike rides.

So far we have helped the Churchill Partners to raise over £1 million for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). With your help, we are hoping to raise even more money this year for such an amazing cause.
